Rulora.io is designed around the privacy laws that govern K-12 education — FERPA, COPPA, and your state's student-data-privacy statutes — with your school always in control of its own data.
Compliance
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g) protects the privacy of student education records. Rulora.io acts as a “school official” performing a legitimate educational service under your direction — we never use student records for any purpose other than serving your school.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act governs online data collection from children under 13. Rulora.io is an administrator tool operated by school staff; it is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data directly from students.
Many states have SOPIPA-style statutes (e.g., California's Student Online Personal Information Protection Act) that restrict how student data is used, sold, or shared. Rulora.io does not sell data or use it for advertising, and honors the requirements of the state your district operates in.
Education and privacy law differ by state. Inside the app, Rulora.io's Compliance mode references your district's state (from your School Profile) when analyzing a situation. Always confirm specifics with your district counsel.
Security
All traffic between your browser and Rulora.io is protected with industry-standard TLS/HTTPS encryption.
Documents and answers are scoped by role. Principals (owners) control which staff can access which documents; staff only see what's shared with them.
Sign-in is handled through Google authentication — Rulora.io never stores your Google password.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use your handbooks to train third-party models for unrelated purposes.
Your data rights
Your school owns every document you upload and every answer generated from it. Rulora.io is a processor acting on your instructions.
Remove any document from your Library at any time. Deleting a document removes it and its indexed content from active use.
Export any cited answer as a board-ready PDF. Request a copy of your school's data by contacting us.
A note on legal guidance. Rulora.io provides general, policy-based information and analysis to help school leaders act quickly and confidently. It is not a law firm and its outputs are not legal advice. For binding interpretation of FERPA, your state's statutes, or any specific situation, consult your district's counsel.
